HEED 173 INTRODUCTION TO CLOTHING AND TEXTILE [3 Credits]

An overview of clothing and textiles, including clothing construction, apparel design, and textiles.

 

HEED 174 TEXTILE FIBER [3]

Covers the structure, properties, and treatment methods related to clothing materials, such as fiber, yarn and clot.

 

HEED 176 INTRODUCTION TO THE FOOD SCIENCE [3]

Study on the proximate composition such as moisture, carbohydrate, protein, fat. Structure, properties of these components and their changes during processing, preservation and cooking are discussed.

 

HEED 178 CHILD DEVELOPMENT [3]

The growth and development of the child from conception through the childhood years, with emphasis on development sequences in physical, psychological and social areas. Also provides a systematic review of the major theories in child development.

 

HEED 204 ACADEMIC WRITING IN HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION [3]

A writing course designed to develop effective writing skills and conventions of scientific writing as well as critical thinking on issues related to home economics education.

 

HEED 205 PHILOSOPHY AND CURRICULUM OF HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION [3]

Study on concepts, characteristics, purposes, history, philosophy and curriculum of secondary home economics education.

 

HEED 212 LIFE-SPAN DEVELOPMENT [3]

A study of human development from conception to death. Emphasis on physical, cognitive, social, and family development. Also provides a systematic review of the major theories in human development.

 

HEED 213 ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT [3]

A study of the interplay of physical, cultural, and self forces as they influence behavior, development, learning, and adjustment during adolescence.

 

HEED 215 RESEARCH METHODS IN CHILD AND FAMILY STUDIES [3]

A study of research methods in child development and family. Emphasis on descriptive statistics, research design, data collection and analyses, and ethical issues in child and family studies.

 

HEED 223 CONSUMER STUDY [3]

Covers the principles of purchasing decision-making and consumer responsibilities, rights, and problems.

 

HEED 225 FAMILY FINANCIAL PLANNING [3]

Theory of finance and consumption practices, including the cost of living, marketing, consumption, and family needs at various stages in the life cycle and managerial approaches to achievement of short- or long- term financial goals for family to teach contents in home economics textbook of secondary school.

 

HEED 233 PRINCIPLES OF CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION [3]

Study and practice flat pattern making principles and sewing techniques which serve as the basis for constructing garments.

 

HEED 234 CLOTHING AND TEXTILES EDUCATION FOR TEACHER [3]

Study basic knowledge and techniques needed to become home economics teachers. Practice making pants, one-piece dresses, Hanbok, and accessories made from recycled materials after the introduction of concepts on body measurements, body types, and sewing machines.

 

HEED 251 FOOD SCIENCE [2]

Study on the sensory qualities such as color, taste and flavor and textural properties and browning reaction of foods.

 

HEED 253 FOOD SCIENCE LABORATORY [1]

Assay of proximate composition of foods such as moisture, crude protein, crude lipid, ash and carbohydrate. Concepts on the concentration, gravimetric and volumetric analysis will be included.

 

HEED 261 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION [3]

An introductory course on early childhood care and education includes historical and contemporary perspectives on child care, early childhood care policy, program management and quality of child care and education.

 

HEED 262 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE & EDUCATION CURRICULUM [3]

An examination of the relationships between theories and methods of learning. A variety of curriculum areas in early childhood care and education are explored to develop an understanding of integrated and emergent curriculum.

 

HEED 284 PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN NUTRITION [3]

A study on nutrients chemical structures, properties and physiological functions; absorption and metabolism in the human body. Discussion of the cases; over nutrition, malnutrition and good nutrition.

 

HEED 305 THEORY OF HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION [3]

Covers the concepts and principles of home economics education, including curriculum, teaching-learning process, lesson plan and evaluation.

 

HEED 306 EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR HOME ECONOMICS [3]

Covers educational theory and methodology for teaching home economics including teaching practice.

 

HEED 312 ADULT DEVELOPMENT AND AGING [3]

An overview of the processes of aging including physiological, and psychological aspects as an introduction to the field of gerontology.

 

HEED 315 CHILD COUNSELLING [3]

An introductory course to study child counseling theories and therapeutic techniques providing an opportunity to observing and discussing child counseling session.

 

HEED 321 FAMILY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT [3]

The use of systems theory in the management of family resources to achieve family goals.

 

HEED 322 PRACTICE AND SEMINAR IN HOME MANAGEMENT [3]

Seminar and practical experiences in family financial and managerial problems and consumer issues., including time, money, energy, storage space, kitchen arrangement, work simplification, family cooperation and other topics(Prerequisite, HEE 303 Home Management).

 

HEED 325 HEALTHY FAMILY [3]

A study of theories in healthy family and related laws and techniques in managing healthy family welfare center including planning, marketing, organizing and financing, etc.

 

HEED 326 PRACTICE IN HEALTHY FAMILY WELFARE CENTER [3]

Practical application and experience of healthy family theory in managing healthy family welfare center.

 

HEED 328 COUNSELING IN HOUSEHOLD FINANCIAL PLANNING [3]

Study on knowledge and practices of counseling about financial planning for general and specific household.

 

HEED 333 FASHION DESIGN EDUCATION LAB [3]

Study and practice draping techniques to gain basic knowledge about constructing different styles of garments.

This course discusses the history of clothes in both Oriental and Western cultures, in relation the geographical, historical, and cultural backgrounds and the history of art.

 

HEED 336 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY OF DRESS [3]

Students engage in a multidisciplinary framework in considering the social and cultural importance of the body and dress. Course emphasizes that standards of beauty may differ from culture to culture and examines the roles of clothing on human interaction with a contextual framework. Course content covers the social and psychological aspects of dress and culture as it relates to the individual, society and culture.

 

HEED 337 FASHION INDUSTRY STRUCTURE [3]

This course explores the structure of fashion and related industries from fiber to consumer in relation to globalization and technology in order to understand the current status of Korean fashion industries. The structure of accessories and home fashions industries are also reviewed.

 

HEED 338 FASHION MARKETING & MERCHANDISING [3]

The purpose of this course is to understand fashion and theoretical principles related to the consumption and marketing of fashion products. The focus is on the concept of fashion and related sociocultural, political and economical factors. The impacts of fashion on consumers, and the factors influencing consumers' choices are also reviewed. The importance of marketing orientation and understanding of consumer target market is emphasized.

 

HEED 342 HOUSING [3]

Addresses housing and modern family life in Korean culture, including modern designs for homes.

 

HEED 348 FOOD AND FOOD EXPERIMENTATION [3]

The course covers culinary principle of food materials and understand the physicochemical changes during cooking period. It also establishes the acceptable culinary method through experimentation of food materials.

 

HEED 351 PRACTICE OF COOKING [3]

Practice on the characteristics, materials, kind, table settings and preparation of Korean and foreign foods.

 

HEED 353 SAFETY OF FOODS [3]

Study on the hazardous factors occurred during production, processing, preservation and handling of foods.

 

HEED 356 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE IN FOOD PROCESSING AND PRESERVATION [3]

The course covers basic principles, unit operation, and equipment involved in food processing. It also covers practice of food preservation by basic processing methods.

 

HEED 361 EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMS [3]

Exploration of a variety of programs and practices in caring for and educating young children in day care preschool situations.

 

HEED 362 PLAY AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT [3]

Overview of classic and modern theories of play. Understanding advantages of linking play and child development and planning play-generated curriculum.

 

HEED 363 HEALTH EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN [3]

An introductory course to implement physical and psychological health education in early childhood care through organizing and presenting health, nutrition and safety issues and material for young children.

 

HEED 371 FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION [3]

Covers theories and program development on family life education for a variety of audiences and topics.

 

HEED 373 FAMILY LIFE & CULTURE [3]

This course offers a general overview of gender and family including the functions of family, marriage, marital adjustment, parent-child relationships, and sibling relations.

 

HEED 381 FUNCTIONAL FOODS [3]

The course covers the chemistry of the major nutraceutical ingredient categories and the current scientific information supporting their biochemical and physiological efficacy. It also covers properties and processing of functional foods.

 

HEED 382 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE IN NUTRITION EDUCATION [3]

This course will deal with the various issues on the nutritional education for health maintenance and promotion as well as the tools and methods to teach the improvement in nutritional status. It also practice the tools and methods to teach the nutritional education.

 

HEED 412 CHILD WELFARE [3]

An introductory course to examine the emergence of the modern child welfare system and the development of programs and policies affecting children and families, with particular attention to poverty, foster care and child abuse.

 

HEED 413 PARENT EDUCATION [3]

A general overview of parenting effectiveness training and parent education program.

 

HEED 414 CHILDCARE INTERNSHIP [2]

Application of early childhood principles, methods, materials and appropriate guidance techniques for teaching young children in an early childcare center to develop the ability to function as a child care professional.

 

HEED 415 SEMINAR AND PRACTICUM IN CHILD & FAMILY STUDY [3]

A Seminar of recent research findings in child and family together with an opportunity to observe and analyze the behavior of an individual child in a nursery school.

 

HEED 422 PRACTICE IN CONSUMER COUNSELING [3]

Practical experiences on consumer counseling for solving a variety of consumer problems.

 

HEED 424 CONSUMER EDUCATION [3]

Study on theories about consumer education and strategies on developing consumer education program for a variety of audiences and topics.

 

HEED 426 STUDY OF HOME ECONOMICS CLASS [3]

Investigating better teaching-learning methods and constructing educational media for elementary and secondary home economics education through visiting and observing real home economics class in school.

 

HEED 432 GARMENT CARE AND MANAGEMENT LAB [3]

An examination of the function and effectiveness of detergents.

 

HEED 433 CONSTRUCTION OF FASHION COSTUME [3]

Train students to developing design sketches from design concepts and inspirations. Students construct garments after selecting designs. Experienced designers from the industry are invited to critique students' designs.

 

HEED 436 FASHION INFORMATION AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT [3]

This course introduces students to the collection and analysis of fashion information for fashion forecasting and merchandising. The fashion merchandising process of determining design concepts and quantities of products based on target market's need is explored.

 

HEED 454 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE IN DIETARY EDUCATION [3]

This course reviews on the current status of the dietary education according to the Dietary Education Support Act, primarily based on the middle/high school home economics class. It also presents the tools and methods to teach the dietary education for building the desirable dietary habits based on the Dietary Education Support Act.

 

HEED 482 NUTRITION THROUGHOUT THE LIFE CYCLE [3]

Study on physiological changes and nutritional management according to life span.
